‘He Should Never Have Been Appointed’: Epstein Accuser’s Family Blasts Mandelson Role

Date:

The family of the late Virginia Giuffre, a vocal accuser of Jeffrey Epstein, has publicly condemned the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as the UK’s ambassador to the United States. In a powerful television interview, they asserted that he “should not have been given the position in the first place” due to his well-known association with the disgraced financier.
Amanda Roberts, Giuffre’s sister-in-law, questioned why it takes public outcry to hold powerful figures accountable. “Our governments have allowed these people to hold their status and their title without shame,” she stated, expressing frustration that action wasn’t taken sooner. Her husband, Sky Roberts, echoed the sentiment, stating the appointment was unequivocally wrong.
Their comments amplify the crisis engulfing the government following Mandelson’s sacking. The dismissal was triggered by the publication of emails in which Mandelson encouraged Epstein to seek an early end to his sentence for child sex offenses. This has left No. 10 scrambling to manage the fallout and criticism over its judgment.
While Downing Street, through Business Secretary Peter Kyle, has tried to justify the appointment as a calculated risk taken to secure a skilled diplomat, the family’s emotional testimony highlights the human cost of such political gambles and challenges the government’s ethical compass in public appointments.
