Alcaraz: “Wavering Level” in Past, Now Finds French Open Groove

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz, who had endured a “wavering level” in earlier French Open matches, appears to have found his groove, delivering a dominant 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Tommy Paul to reach the semi-finals. The defending champion’s performance was a significant step up, showcasing renewed confidence.

Alcaraz’s path to the quarter-finals had been complicated, marked by dropped sets and occasional patience lapses. However, against Paul, he exhibited a masterful display of varied shotmaking, stating he “could close my eyes and everything went in.”

Paul, despite his athleticism and history of challenging Alcaraz, looked visibly weary from previous taxing matches and an abdominal issue. His fatigue, combined with Alcaraz’s resurgent form, created a one-sided affair, setting up a compelling semi-final with Lorenzo Musetti.
