Qatar has called for increased global cooperation to advance sustainable development and support the United Nations 2030 Agenda. At a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative in New York, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, emphasized the pressing challenges faced by developing countries, such as financial constraints, food insecurity, climate change, energy shortages, and the digital divide.
Minister Al Misnad underscored the critical need for sustainable and inclusive development to ensure long-term peace, stability, and prosperity. She advocated for enhanced international efforts to bridge the development financing gap and bolster resources for developing nations, with particular attention to the least developed countries.
Qatar urged for stronger commitments in development financing, climate action, and reforms to the global financial system to better assist developing countries in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. The minister also highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in promoting sustainable development, while cautioning against the risk of exacerbating disparities due to unequal access to technology and expertise. She called for improved cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and digital skills development.
Reaffirming its dedication to sustainable development, Qatar highlighted its National Vision 2030 and its partnerships on the international stage. The country emphasized its initiatives to support poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience in vulnerable regions.
