ASEAN and Qatar are reinforcing their economic ties as annual bilateral trade nears $15 billion, creating new opportunities in sectors such as energy, aviation, and digital technology. This development comes after Qatar’s elevation to an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2026, a partnership built on its earlier accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 2022.
The collaboration has seen a steady increase in various areas, including investment, education, and sustainable development, bolstered by frequent high-level exchanges. With ASEAN’s extensive market, encompassing over 680 million people and an economy valued at approximately $3.9 trillion, Qatar sees significant potential for growth and cooperation.
Both parties are exploring ventures in renewable energy, green technology, and the development of smart cities. These initiatives align with ASEAN’s goals of sustainable infrastructure and digital transformation, which are integral to the region’s future economic landscape.
The ASEAN Committee in Doha remains committed to fostering deeper business connections and cultural exchanges. The committee aims to encourage practical cooperation between ASEAN member states and Qatar, emphasizing the importance of people-to-people connections in strengthening this international partnership.
