Qatar Attends GCC Meeting to Enhance Regional Social Development Cooperation

Qatar recently took part in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting in Bahrain, emphasizing regional collaboration in social welfare, family support, and community development. The meeting of the GCC Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Social Development saw Qatar represented by Minister of Social Development and Family, Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi.

The gathering focused on enhancing coordination among GCC member states and sharing expertise to tackle social challenges in the region. Key discussions included the implementation of existing Gulf-wide decisions and the development of a strategic work plan for 2026-2030. Participants explored ways to improve social programs to better respond to the evolving needs of communities across the Gulf.

A significant topic during the meeting was the advancement of disability rights, including discussions on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. A proposal was made to establish a regular Gulf forum dedicated to disability-related issues, underscoring the importance of this agenda within the GCC.

The impact of artificial intelligence on children’s rights was also a focal point, with ministers examining opportunities and challenges presented by emerging technologies. Plans for a regional report on the future of children’s rights across GCC countries were discussed, along with further coordination on childhood protection and welfare.

In addition to these discussions, the meeting addressed strengthening cooperation on women’s issues and exploring new initiatives to promote social development throughout the Gulf region. On the sidelines, Minister Al Nuaimi attended a ceremony recognizing individuals and projects in civil social work, where Qatari figures and initiatives received acknowledgment for their contributions.
