Indian Minister Kiren Rijiju Honors Qatar’s Father Amir, Strengthens Bilateral Relations

Indian Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, made a visit to Doha to express India’s condolences on the death of Qatar’s Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. This gesture highlighted the enduring and robust relationship between India and Qatar.

During his visit, Rijiju met with Qatar’s current Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to deliver condolences on behalf of the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rijiju honored the late Father Amir, acknowledging him as a visionary leader who greatly contributed to Qatar’s growth and the strengthening of strategic ties with India. He emphasized that the Indian community in Qatar deeply mourns the loss, recalling the Father Amir’s contributions with immense respect.

Prime Minister Modi had previously honored Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, recognizing him as a genuine friend of India and appreciating his role in enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

In a mark of respect for the late Father Amir, India observed a day of national mourning on July 13, 2026. During this time, the national flag was flown at half-mast on government buildings, and official entertainment activities were suspended.

The visit by Minister Rijiju underscores the close diplomatic ties between India and Qatar, reflecting the significance both nations place on their enduring partnership. This relationship continues to be built on mutual respect and shared interests.
