Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution as the key to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. Speaking at a ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution during the UN General Assembly in New York, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, emphasized the necessity of adhering to international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Al Khulaifi stressed the importance of establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting peacefully with Israel. In his remarks, he urged nations that have not yet recognized Palestine to take that step, highlighting the significance of international support for the two-state framework.
The minister expressed concern over ongoing settlement expansion, land seizures, and violence by settlers, as well as actions affecting religious sites in the West Bank, which he believes are jeopardizing the prospects for a two-state solution. He also pointed to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the associated humanitarian crisis as significant threats to regional stability and political resolution efforts.
Qatar is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts alongside Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye, working towards ceasefire agreements and peace initiatives. Al Khulaifi reiterated Qatar’s dedication to providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians and participating in international endeavors to improve conditions in Gaza and advance a lasting political settlement.
