Qatar and Bahrain Launch Direct Ferry Service Strengthening GCC Maritime Links

Date:

A new passenger ferry service connecting Qatar and Bahrain officially launched today, marking a major step forward in regional connectivity. The 50-minute maritime route, covering about 35 nautical miles (65 km), links Al-Ruwais Port in Qatar with Sa’ada Marina in Bahrain.
The launch ceremony was attended by Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, and Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. Both officials emphasized that the initiative reflects the strong bilateral ties and growing cooperation between the two Gulf nations, as well as a broader effort to enhance integration within the GCC transportation network.
The new service will initially operate for GCC nationals only, offering two daily round trips between November 7 and 12, with plans to increase to three from November 13 onward. Standard and VIP vessels—accommodating 28 and 32 passengers respectively—will offer modern onboard amenities. Ticket prices start at QR265 for an economy round trip, and bookings can be made through the “MASAR” application.
Officials described the project as a “strategic milestone” for Gulf maritime transport, underscoring the shared vision of both countries to promote sustainable and efficient mobility across the region.
